What Sparked all of this Hat Stuff?

Hats became an icon within American culture at the time. Film, music, skateboarding, and many other realms began including New Era 59Fifty hats into their own fashion. Fashion has no boundaries which is why these hats spread like a wild fire. Whether they were a celebrity or an artist, the 59Fifty was a staple, especially after a certain famous film director revolutionized the game in 19946

I always enjoy wearing baseball caps. I got my first when I was six or seven years old. All the kids had them. Back in the day it really wasn’t a fashion thing, but now people wear the hats and it has nothing to do with sports.

Spike Lee

In the 1996, Spike Lee wore the iconic red New York Yankees 59Fifty to the event and it went wild. Why did the culture respond so crazily to this? Because up until that point, New Era only allowed teams to produce hats in their uniform colorways and designs. This hat crossed over the lines into making these hats a piece of fashion rather than just simply sports caps. Spike Lee indirectly brought the hat game to a completely different level than anyone could have expected.

Cultural Icons Wearing New Era Hats

This is only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to those who wear these hats. I am sure nearly every single famous person owns a New Era Fitted hat in their wardrobe somewhere. Sports caps have become intertwined in the culture of the United States and the rest of the world.
